A church garden has been opened up for sharing by the entire community.

The large green space is located in the grounds of the Mt Colah Uniting Church, corner of Pacific Highway and Amaroo Ave.  The project was launched in October 2015 with a very successful Garden Party.

The food and floral garden is open for everyone from Mt Colah and surrounding suburbs, to garden and learn to garden, or simply to meet together in a safe and welcoming space.

It provides opportunities for those currently in the community to grow networks and friendships and to enhance the sense of connectedness they feel to their neighbours and the wider community.  It also provides for the existing community and new community members to interact and support each other by focusing on shared interests and common ground

People from diverse cultural backgrounds, religions, ages, ability and gender, are all welcome and encouraged to make the most of the opportunities presented, for near and not so near neighbours, to support one another, and to share the resources of the community and the church.

This facility provides a venue for the enjoyment and support of any who are: alone or isolated by cultural background, age, illness, living alone or for other reasons; in physical, emotional or spiritual need; would benefit from fresh food, exercise or stimulation; or have other needs which might be supported.

The garden infrastructure is in place, with a gazebo and outdoor tables and seats, a lockable shed with tools, plus a few raised food growing beds and a Peace Garden, designed for relaxation and sensory enjoyment.  Plans for rainwater harvesting and reticulation plus more growing beds are under way.

The garden will be managed by a team from the community and the church.  Opening times are flexible, with specific times when the church facilities, such as kitchen and toilets, are also open.

Local families and groups, large and small, are invited to use the large and attractive green space for gatherings.  Weddings may, and have been, conducted in the garden.

Expressions of interest are invited ,for enjoying gardening, using the space for other purposes, and joining the management team.
