Use your fire trails for fitness

Getting fit and in shape is one of the most popular New Year’s resolutions which we tend to keep for a few weeks and then when life gets busy, it’s forgotten. Now with the hot summer weather almost gone it’s time to renew our fitness resolution.

Walking is a good way of getting fit and you don’t have to drive far to the walking track. We have them right here, locally, in our green, clean Mount Colah.

Our neighbourhood has an extensive network of fire trails which are ideal for that purpose. There’s Arthur’s Trail, Oxley Trail, Beryl Trail and Flinders Trail just to name a few. You can take a walk, stroll or you can run – whatever feels right and for as long as you want.

You can do it before or after work as you don’t have to drive anywhere – just step out of your door, get on to the closest fire trail and take a walk through the local bushland.

Invite your neighbors, family or friend to join you, so you have someone to chat with along the way.

You may spot an interesting rock formation, flower, bird, lizard… and walking up and down the hills will make your heart work harder and it will thank you for it. When you meet fellow neighbour, say hello and smile – big grins are free and a happy face cheers everyone!

So although we’re already in March , let’s renew our resolution to get fit in 2017 and connect with each other.

Our small Friends of Mount Colah group has the following mission statement: ‘Bringing the Mount Colah community together.’

We’re committed to making Mount Colah a friendlier place and to link up residents with each other and other local organisations. If you’d like to share your ideas, please join us, just come to our next meeting at the Mount Colah Pizzeria.
