International Women’s day events locally

What started out three years ago as a tiny event inspired by International Women’s day, has now grown to the week-long Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Festival celebrating local women.

International Women’s Day (IWD) is on March 8th with the local Festival running from the 2nd to 9th March, incorporating programs that encourage women to #pressforprogress (the official IWD #) and #lovemefirst, our Hornsby Ku-ring-gai spin for the area.

The Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Festival has been run in Hornsby for three years, with the finale Friday featuring an outside broadcast with local community radio station TripleH 100.1fm, stalls with services, business opportunities and experiences for women and a BBQ.  This coming year will have more of a splash of colour and a celebratory theme.

A website www.internationalwomensdayfestival.com shares details of all of the events that will be happening across the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai area during Festival week from 2nd to 9th March.

The Festival Finale is on Friday 9th March which will involve information stalls, a BBQ and lots of opportunities for women to participate in activities and spoil themselves. For those who feel they have something to offer women, there’s the option to have a presence at the Festival Finale! There are also great opportunities for local businesses to sponsor events and get some focused marketing to a targeted audience.

Festival Founder Lucy Dahill said: “We have a responsibility as women to lead the way as role models to our own children and others that being a woman in the world today is a wonderful experience and opportunity, yet all too often they see multitasking exhaustion as the ‘norm’ which feeds an anxiety about the future.

“This festival is an opportunity for us to come together as a community and change the trajectory for normal – to support each other to place self–care higher up the list if not right at the top, in order to then support others in our family and community.”

*Festival organisers want to hear from any community group hosting an event so they can share it, on one platform, with as many local women as possible and perhaps inspire other areas and communities to follow our lead. If you would like to get involved then head to www.internationalwomensdayfestival.com and register your interest.
