Loreto Normanhurst welcomes city boarders

Loreto Normanhurst is a Catholic, independent, boarding and day school for girls in Years 5 to 12. The school offers full-time boarding from Year 7 and is a ‘home away from home’ for over 150 young women, mainly from country NSW. From this year, the school is also offering flexible boarding options for city-based students.

Ms Barbara Watkins, Principal of Loreto Normanhurst, says maximum flexibility and optimum use of facilities will confidently support the education of Loreto Normanhurst’s young women into the future. “As we look towards the future, with our Strategic Plan and a new 30-year Master Plan, it is timely that we review and implement strategic changes to our current practices. This includes diversification of our current model of boarding, while keeping boarding and our traditions at the heart of what we do.”

The full-time boarding model is still at the core of Loreto Normanhurst boarding, but now incorporates full flexibility on weekends. For country and city-based boarders alike, this means boarding all week with greater access to weekend time with family and friends. This model of boarding can also take some of the pressure off busy family life and help students meet their academic and extra-curricular commitments.

“These decisions are made by the school so that boarding continues to remain strong at Loreto Normanhurst into the future. These changes will serve to promote country alongside local Sydney boarding to families who have long aspired to join the boarding community at Loreto Normanhurst,” says Ms Watkins.

Established in 1897, Loreto Normanhurst remains one of the largest girls’ boarding schools in Sydney. Boarders foster a close-knit community of camaraderie, receive a well-rounded education and are encouraged to participate to the fullest extent in school life, to discover their gifts and take advantage of every opportunity for personal growth. It’s a compassionate, stable and safe environment where all staff work in partnership with parents to make the most of the boarding experience.

“A vibrant and dynamic school, Loreto Normanhurst is continually striving to offer outstanding education for young women, relevant to the changing time in which we now live,” says Ms Watkins.

Loreto Normanhurst is holding an Open Day on Saturday 10 March 2018 from 11am to 3pm and hope many members of the wider community will join them at what is always a wonderful celebration for their school community. www.loretonh.nsw.edu.au
