The whole nation fell in love with Jacko on 7’s Sunday Night program some 4 years ago. “His courage and determination are amazing,” said Chris Bath, program host.
When Jackson’s brain was starved of oxygen at birth, Doctors said he would never stand up, talk or walk. He had suffered severe brain damage, had quadriplegic cerebral palsy and would be disabled for life.
With the love and support of his father David, his primary carer, Jackson made progress. Dr Martin Kluckow said after three and a half years: “it’s a miracle that he has got this far.”
David said of his son: “He’s my mate. I’m going to make him better; we’re going to overcome this tragedy together.”
The challenge now is going to be the larger ongoing costs, providing therapy and housing for an independent future and opportunity to life. Medical bills alone amount to more than $60,000 per year.
Jackson’s ‘godfathers’ have established a charity Walk Talk Fly to look after their beloved boy and other children with Cerebral Palsy.
