After three days of tightly contested netball, the 2017 Samsung State Championships at the Baulkham Hills Shire Netball Association have come to an end.
With the weather improving each day of the Championships, athletes, umpires, organisers and fans from all over NSW experienced beautiful sunshine to see out the 49th running of the event.
Netball NSW would like to congratulate the following teams on winning their respective divisions: Newcastle (Opens Champs), Bathurst (Opens Div 2), Newcastle (21/U Champs), Many Warringah (17/U Champs), Hastings Valley (17/U Div 2), Glen Innes (17/U Div 3).
Netball NSW Board Member Ruth Havrlant said the State Championships were all about fun, friendship and playing your best game of netball.
“On behalf of Netball NSW I would like to say well done to everyone who took part, organised and supported this year’s Championships,” she said.
“We have had 1097 players on court this weekend – it’s awesome to have so many keen netballers at such an iconic event as this.
“The games are of an extremely high standard, with people all ages and abilities enjoying themselves.
“Friendships are made and renewed, the players go home exhausted with a few bumps and bruises but most importantly they come back the next year and that’s what it’s all about.
“It’s an awesome event where we see players, umpires and officials come back, some even after they’ve retired, because they enjoy the weekend so much.”
Baulkham Hills Shire Netball Association President Julie Poole said the weekend was a huge success, explaining that events like this bring the NSW netball community together.
“It’s been absolutely wonderful, we love having NSW events out here, great fun, great atmosphere,” she said.
“It’s been a great weekend with excitement from the athletes who have just moved into the senior divisions and relief from our more mature athletes that the weekend is over, but smiles all around.”
